The Metaphysical Center of New Jersey, a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the teachings and pursuit of esoteric studies, was founded by Donald H. Yott.  MCNJ began its program of classes and lectures in 1956 and has operated continuously, celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2006. In addition to hosting monthly lectures, discussion groups and special events, the Center also teaches at many adult schools in the Northern New Jersey area. Metaphysics is the study of esoteric teachings concerning cosmic laws, the nature of reality, the purpose and meaning of life, our relationship to the universe and spiritual evolution. "Meta" means "beyond," and metaphysics deals with that which lies beyond the physical. It includes the physical, for cosmic laws are true on all levels, but goes beyond the physical to encompass all planes of existence.

"Esoteric" means "hidden" or "inner," for these ancient teachings have been hidden or secret for many ages, taught only to selected initiates who have proven their readiness to receive them. Now that we are in the dawn of a new age, marked by a general expansion of consciousness, the teachings are being given openly to all who are interested. According to an ancient esoteric truth, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears."

Metaphysics has two branches, the esoteric philosophy and the study of psychic phenomena. Both are covered in MCNJ's 13 level course of study.

Parapsychology is a branch of psychology that involves the study of consciousness, extra sensory perception, the powers of the mind, and psychic phenomena. It is concerned with scientific research into areas that lie beyond the realm of orthodox psychology, but are necessary to a broader and deeper understanding of human nature.

The Metaphysical Center of New Jersey has a special interest in the modern research findings of parapsychology, psychology, physics, biology, archeology, and other fields, which corroborate the ancient mystery teachings, and are included in our courses.

Our mission is to educate, enlighten, and encourage spiritual evolution. Through classes, lectures, and various events, our aim is to spread light and to help people understand the purpose of life, their relationship to the Universe, cosmic laws, and the application of those laws to daily life. We believe in presenting people with many points of view so that they can choose what seems right for them.

The MCNJ logo was designed and drawn by Alice Merz and first appeared in the April 1977 newsletter. Alice, who has since passed, was an accomplished artist and a highly intuitive metaphysician dedicated to her spiritual studies. Her long and special relationship with the Center included lecturing for us. When asked what the logo symbolizes, she said that while creating it she was inspired with the following:

• God's All-Seeing Eye
• Soul Flight
• Through Yin--Yang Senses
• Energy and Light

Alice was truly inspired to create the perfect symbol of our purpose and expression---physical and spiritual balance, striving for wisdom and enlightenment through a loving consciousness.
